Attaching documents to a conversation
Upload a document from your case file and ask Dikaio.ai about its content, with answers based on your own text.
Video transcript
Attach documents: ask dikaio.ai about your own document Ask about a contract, a claim or a report and get an answer based on the text itself. The paperclip next to the message box opens the attach window. The start screen has a button too. Click it and the window opens where you add your files. It accepts PDF, Word, ODT, PowerPoint, Excel, text, CSV, images and scanned documents. Up to 15 documents, 30 MB each, 150 pages per scanned PDF. No password-protected files. Drag or choose your files and click «Upload 1 file». Files do not upload on their own. Wait for «Your documents are available to the legal assistant». Now ask about your document.
What it is
Attaching lets you upload one of your own documents, such as a contract, a pleading or a report, and discuss it with Dikaio.ai. The legal assistant reads the text and answers your questions from it.
It accepts the usual office files and images: PDF, Word, ODT, PowerPoint, Excel, plain text and CSV, as well as scanned documents. Encrypted files are not accepted.
File limits
- Up to 15 documents in each conversation. Summaries, compliance checks and translations are done on one document at a time.
- Up to 30 MB per document and 150 MB in total per upload.
- Up to 150 pages per scanned PDF.
- Your plan sets two limits: how many document pages you can upload, and how many scanned pages are read in each billing cycle. Documents that already contain text (Word, txt, most PDFs) do not count against your scanned pages.
The exact limits for your account are shown in the attach window, under the area where you drop your files.
Why it helps
You do not have to copy extracts or search page by page. Ask, for example, "What are the termination clauses?" or "Which deadlines are mentioned?", and the answer comes from the document itself.
This saves time on a first read of a case file and on checking details that are easy to miss. Attaching a document costs no credits, within the fair use policy. Your documents are not used to train AI models.
How to get started
Open the attach window
In a new or existing conversation, click the paperclip «Attach documents» in the message box. On the start screen there is also a matching button under the box.
Choose your files
Drag the files into the window or pick them from your computer. You can add more than one.
Upload them
Click «Upload 1 file» (the number matches how many files you chose). Files do not upload on their own.
Wait for processing
You will see «Processing Documents». When «Your documents are available to the legal assistant» appears, they are ready. Long scanned documents can take longer.
Ask your question
Type your question and click «Send Message». The files you attached appear above the message box. With three or more, they are grouped behind a paperclip button (for example «3 files») that opens the «Attached Files» list.
Tips
- For a summary, a compliance check or a translation, use the matching action.
- If something will not upload, see the article "I can't attach my document, or it can't be read".
- Always check important points in the document itself before relying on an answer.
Scanned documents
Dikaio.ai also reads scanned documents and photos of documents, in PDF, JPG, PNG, TIFF or WEBP format. For the best result:
- Scan at 300 dpi or more, in black and white or grayscale.
- The whole page should be visible, straight and free of shadows. If you take a photo with your phone, use good light and shoot from directly above.
- One document per file, with the pages upright and in order.
- If you have the same document in Word, or as a PDF saved from Word, upload that instead: it is read faster and does not count against your scanned pages.
- Handwritten notes and stamps may not be read in full. Check those parts in the document itself.
