See what was added, removed and changed from one version of a document to the next, and restore an earlier version.
Video transcript
Comparing and restoring versions Each save with changes becomes a new version, here «Version 2 of 2». Click «Compare». The two versions appear side by side. The legend shows what was removed, what was changed and what was added. Choose which versions to compare, in two columns or in «Single column». Changed your mind? «Restore version 1» copies it as a new version. Nothing is deleted. «Exit comparison» takes you back to the editor. The comparison shows differences in the text. The final check of the text is yours.
What it is
Each time a draft is saved with changes, a new version is created. In the document header you see, for example, «Version 2 of 2». The comparison shows two versions together and marks in colour what was added, what was removed and what was changed.
If you prefer an earlier form of the text, you restore it with one button.
Why it helps
You don't have to read the whole document again to find what changed after an edit, a revision by the Agent or a «Review with AI». You see only the differences. Restoring deletes nothing: the old version is copied as a new one, so the whole history stays available.
The comparison shows differences in the text. It does not judge whether a change is legally right. Changes that come from the Agent are drafting suggestions for your review, not legal advice. Checking the final text remains your job.
How to get started
Open the comparison
In a document with more than one version, click the two-column icon in the document header («Compare»).
Choose the versions
In the «Old» and «New» fields, choose which versions to compare. By default the active version is compared with the one before it.
Read the changes
Above the text you see the totals, for example "6 added · 0 removed · 3 changed". In the «Legend:» red means «Removed», yellow «Changed» and green «Added». On the left is «Version 1 (old)» and on the right «Version 2 (new)».
Change the view
«Single column» shows the changes within one continuous text. «Side by side» takes you back to two columns.
Close the comparison
Click «Exit comparison» to return to the editor.
Tips
- If you don't remember what a colour means, click «What do the colours mean?».
- In very large documents word-level highlighting is turned off and changes are marked by paragraph.
If you change your mind: restoring
In the comparison, click «Restore version 1» (the number is that of the old version you selected) and confirm with «Restore». The version is copied to the end of the history as a new version and becomes the active one. Newer versions are not deleted.
